What are ACCU Segments?

For ease of analysis, we have categorized the Clean Energy Regulator-approved methodologies used by Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) projects in the following segments to acknowledge the differentiation or association between different methodologies and how they trade in the market.

Segment

*Savanna Fire Management projects can take place in lands of indigenous ownership and can yield positive co-benefits to the indigenous communities living in them. These co-benefits can manifest in various forms such as increased employment opportunities, skill development through training programs, and more.

While there isn't a formal certification specifically designated as Indigenous Co-Benefits (ICB), except for projects sanctioned by the Land Restoration Fund Register of Queensland, they are of high value in the market as often reported in trades. Consequently, our pricing methodology distinguishes between projects with and without ICBs, reflecting common practices in the market.

Given the absence of a centralized authority to verify co-benefits, our team of subject-matter experts exercises discretion in designating projects as "Savanna Fire Management (with or without Indigenous Co-Benefits)" based on the following criteria:

  1. We receive a market quote with a project identifier stating that it has co-benefits;
  2. The quote has a significant premium over standard “Savanna Fire Management” quotes;
  3. There is sufficient evidence to deem a Project Proponent is an Indigenous Corporation engaged with Indigenous/ Aboriginal/Traditional Owners of the land.
