How does the similarity score work?

Our similarity score is a measure that helps users understand how similar two projects are. Expressed in percentages, this score indicates the degree of similarity between two initiatives. The underlying score is a number from 0.0 to 1.0, with 1.0 being the most similar. That way, a score of 0.90, for example, means that two projects share 90% of the fundamental features that define them.

To calculate the similarity score, we use a combination of factors including characteristics of the projects, shared eligibilities, and other insights. This helps us to identify which projects are eligible to be considered similar.

We also take project types into account when determining similarity. For example, we take project types into account when determining similarity, such that a project with a type of Ecosystem Conservation will never be considered similar to a project with a type of Energy Supply

After applying these rules, we use a similarity measure to calculate the final score. This measure is based on the number of intersections between two sets of project characteristics, which include standard, project type, geography and region, among others.
